Ending Domestic Violence on Men

Although it is not reported or talked about as much as domestic violence on women, women are abusing men. According to the CDC, 40% of domestic violence victims are men.

Domestic violence on men is oftentimes swept under the rug for a few reasons:

1. Men don’t always classify being hit by a woman as “abuse”. Many of them just try to physically restrain their abuser or "suck it up and take it like a man”.
2. Men don’t talk about abuse because they feel embarrassed or think it makes them look weak.
3. Men oftentimes feel they won’t be heard or taken seriously if they reported or talked about being a victim of abuse.

We all know that there is a physical difference between the average man and the average woman, but the size difference doesn't mean that a woman can't do damage to a man. We must also keep in mind that objects are sometimes used in these assaults, such as knives, bats, pots/pans, glass bottles and other household items. These type of objects cause damage to anyone if they are hit with it—man or woman.

The mentality of an abusive woman is the same as an abusive man. Their intentions are the same—to control, hurt and instill fear in their partner. These women are toxic and dangerous, so we mustn't take this issue lightly. Abuse is abuse, no matter who’s doing it.

If you are a man who's being abused, the advice that should be given to you is the same as the advice given to women who are in the same situation, and that is to leave. You may think she’s won't do extreme physical harm to you, and you may not fear for your life, but as mentioned, the mentality of abusers are the same whether they are male or female. Therefore, an abuser will continue to abuse you, and it will only get worse with time. The rage, control issues, disrespect and disregard for you will remain until one of you make a brave move—either she goes to get mental help or you leave the relationship. Please do not stick around expecting the abuse to cease on its own. It won't.
