Become Your Own Master

Who's in control of your life right now? Or shall I say who do you think is in control of your life? Logically, we want to say that we are in control. Some of us may say that God is in control. But if we really thought about it, we could think of other people who we feel is having a strong influence on our life. Sometimes it's our overbearing parents, sometimes it's our very busy children, or our very demanding boss or work schedule. It's very hard to feel like you are in control of your life when you have others that you have obligations to, or people who pretty much force themselves into your daily life.

The truth of the matter is, you may be allowing others to control your life at this time, but the real master of your life is you. (Other than God, but you know what I mean). This concept can be hard to wrap our minds around, because all of our lives we've been in a position where we had to obey or serve someone else. When were children, we were under the authority of our parents. Then when we went to school, we were under their authority of our teachers, and then after going into the workforce, we were under the authority of our boss. Everywhere we go, there is someobe else making the rules. It is only in our personal space where we are allowed to be the authority. And even then, we may have people in our lives who usurp our authority in some way.

Taking back your power is going to be a challenge if you have never taken your power in the first place. But it can be done. Become your own master by first being willing to make the rules for your own life. This will require you to define your own values, the principles you want to live by, and set your own boundaries. It's a lot easier said than done, but once you begin defining these things, it instantly gives you more confidence. You will know what you are and aren't willing to do and accept.

Lastly, take accountability for your life. Know that you are responsible for making your life what you want it to be. Even if there are things that happen that you didn't cause, it's still on you to fix it. Yes, that's very unfair. But we all have to do it if we are going to master ourselves. Although people make it their business to interfere in your life, no one is going to make it their business to give you the life you desire. It is solely on you to make that happen. Along the way you will have supporters, but those supporters will be a result of you stepping into your master role. If you operate like a victim of your own life, you will never meet those who are here to egg you on and help make your dreams come true.
