How to Choose the Right Social Media Guru

Coaches and gurus have taken over social media. We frequently come across a new "expert" on some subject, whether it be relationships, health, lifestyle, or anything in between. Some of these gurus have interesting or useful content, and some have a few services or products that look like they are worth trying. But with so many of them trying to sell their products to you, how do you know which ones are best for you? It seems easiest to go with the most popular, because they seemingly have the most to lose. Once someone has built up a large audience, they will be held accountable if they disappoint them by selling them mediocre products and services. 

But before you choose, know that popular gurus do get exposed for fraudulent behavior. They also overcharge. This is not all popular gurus, but they some do take advantage of their large audience and portray themselves as the best in the industry, simply because they've grown a large following. But this does not necessarily mean that they are the best in the industry, as they would like others to believe. It's ultimately up to you to decide who's truly the best guru for you. It may be the most popular, it may be the least popular, or someone in between. But the most important thing to look for is credibility. Here are a few things to consider to verify the credibility and compatibility of a coach or guru...

1. Does their content resonate with you? Their content and services should be something that you believe is beneficial to you in some way. This doesn't mean that you have to be in agreement with everything they're offering, but if there is something that they are offering that you believe can benefit you, and it can't easily be found elsewhere, this person may make a good coach for you.

2. Do they seem patient enough to work with you? Some social media gurus have awesome information to share, some may even have great products to sell, but they are not good with the public, meaning they aren't patient or articulate when it comes to addressing and serving customers. This can be fixed by simply hiring someone to handle transactions and custom inquiries for them. But if they don't have this in place, you will have to deal with them directly. Are you able to put up with how thye talk to people? Are they patient enough to deal with you, and are you patient enough to deal with them? Consider this before choosing.

3. Can they really change your life? The guru should have the ability to fix a problem for you, lead you to a better outcome, or bring some level of satisfaction to your life that you can't do on your own. Compare them to the other coaches who are offering something similar. Which one seems to have the most ability to give you what you want or take you where you're trying to go? What they may be offering is something useful for someone, but if it isn't useful for you, then they may not be the right pick for you.

4. Can you afford them? Their prices should be within your budget or at least affordable enough to where you can easily pay for it if you saved a little. Some gurus have outrageous prices that their services could never deliver on. But unfortunately, the custome doesn't know that it isn't worth it until after they've already bought it. To prevent this from happening to you, see if other customers are happy with their purchases from that particular guru. If you don't know any of their past customers or clients, inquire with the guru about the specific things you would like to know about the service. 

For example ask about the features, where you could check for reviews from their past clients, and about refunds and return policies. If there is no way for you to check the quality of their work, customer satisfaction, or return policies, then you may be dealing with someone who is high risk or possibly a scammer. A credible guru will have something in place that will make it safe for their customer to make the purchase and also check the quality and credibility of their work.
